Series 1
Jenny Lee gets her fi rst job at Nonnatus House and as she begins to care for her patients, she gradually becomes accustomed to her new environment, making friends with fellow midwives Cynthia, Trixie and Chummy.

Series 2
Now settled into Poplar, Jenny still finds herself shocked by the harsh conditions faced by many patients. Trixie and Sister Evangelina board a Swedish cargo ship to treat the Captain's daughter and Dr Turner introduces the latest pain relief--gas and air.

Series 3
Jenny faces some tough personal and professional challenges, there are changes too for Chummy, as she settles into motherhood and for Sister Bernadette, now known as Shelagh, as she prepares to marry Dr Turner.

Series 4
The community prepares to enter a new decade--the 1960s--and welcomes new nurses Barbara Gilbert and Phyllis Crane. Nurse Cynthia embarks on a life-changing spiritual journey, Trixie receives a proposal, and Chummy takes on a new challenge.
